Sri Guruvayurappan Temple | Bangalore

About Us

In the year 1997, a family of Keralites hailing from Palghat and settled in Nettigere, decided to construct a temple on the holy banks of the river Swarnamukhi. The identified site was believed to be blessed by the invisible presence of lord Vasudeva, their belief further solidified by the profuse growth of tulsi plants and presence of herds of cows grazing on the sacred land.

After considerable thought and prayers, the location for the sreekovil (sacred sanctum) of the proposed temple was finalised at the spot where a 12ft high’ valmeekam’ (Hill) stood. The lord’s idol was proposed to be made of a stone called Anjana Shilla (black bismuth).

The temple construction was completed in the month of Medam (the astrological first month of Mesha) and on the day of Uthram nakshatram the idol was purified and installed Inside the Sanctum by the Thantri Rayillam Narayanan Namboothiri, accompanied by the Vedic chants by 14 Brahmins. Prana Pratishtha (installation of celestial energy) was followed by poojas and rituals that lasted for a period of six days.
